Local Opioid Coalitions are Making a Difference in California

The Public Health Institute has found greater progress in fighting the opioid epidemic in counties with local coalitions that are part of the California Opioid Safety Network, like our Siskiyou Opioid Safety Coalition.

According to the California Opioid Surveillance Dashboard, in the past two years the amount of opioids prescribed in California has decreased as has the rate of high dose opioids (greater than 90 MME).

Additionally, the number of people on buprenorphine prescriptions is up and opioid deaths are stable. There are approximately 35 active local coalitions in California’s 58 counties.
